No internet marketing strategy would be complete without making use of a selection of the thousands of traffic exchanges available. Be careful though; you can't join every single traffic exchange and you certainly can't promote your online business effectively if you are trying to make use of too many traffic exchanges.

In this section we are interested only in 'manual surf' traffic exchanges. A manual traffic exchange is one in which you trade either time or money in order to get your site shown. If choosing time as your method of payment, then you must view the websites of other advertisers in exchange for them viewing your site. This is extremely simple in concept, but flawed since most advertisers are not actually interested in what you have to offer; rather they simply want to promote what they are offering. Fortunately there is a solution which is discussed in the section on downline builders. If time is scarce then you may consider the variety of options most traffic exchanges offer to purchase your traffic. Be sure to shop around though as you will find prices do vary significantly between different traffic exchanges.

When looking for a good traffic exchange, there are a number of factors to consider;

• Number of members - generally the more the better

• How many affiliates use it if you are promoting an affiliate based opportunity. For instance, if you are promoting Jon Olsen's Affiliate Funnel on an exchange that consists of 5000 members and 2500 are affiliates of Affiliate funnel, then 50% of your efforts are for nothing.

• Ratio of how many hits you receive per number of pages surfed.

• Referral program - number of levels...

• Bonus/reward options

There are many more, but generally speaking, the best option is to join a good downline builder and then join the traffic exchanges as recommended usually in order from the top rated exchanges first. I use Traffic Hoopla and VitalViral. Traffic Hoopla publish a weekly list of the top ranked traffic exchanges and are a good resource for both traffic and downline building. VitalViral offer a wide range of tools to support any online business and should not be overlooked. Downline builders are covered in greater detail in a separate section of this site.

What follows are links to some of the traffic exchanges I surf on a regular basis; all of which rate well and achieve results I have obtained through conversion tracking.
